TCC, WORKFORCE plus announce ETAM project partnership
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 7, 2011) – Tallahassee Community College and WORKFORCE plus are proud to announce they are partnering with one another on the Engineering Technology and Advanced Manufacturing (ETAM) project.
ETAM is a grant project funded by the Department of Labor and includes a three-college consortium and local workforce agencies to build workforce development solutions that can be deployed in both the education and training environments. Educational modules will be aligned with courses in the engineering technology degree program and formatted so they can be used either in a traditional academic classroom or by a corporate college for customized incumbent worker training and entry-level unemployed and underemployed workforce training.
“The ETAM project will further strengthen the partnership between WORKFORCE plus and TCC to train people for careers in manufacturing and technology,” said Bruce Batton, Program Manager, Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (AMTC). ”This project will support development of workforce and technical skills needed to boost economic recovery and growth in the Capital Region.”
The goal of the ETAM project in the Big Bend is to reach out to more than 350 unemployed and underemployed persons and incumbent workers over the next two years. To accomplish this goal, WORKFORCE plus has stationed an outreach specialist at TCC’s AMTC. The individual will provide recruitment, eligibility screening, referral and scheduling, assessment services, job readiness assistance, job placement assistance and job retention support.
“We are excited with the opportunity to expand our partnership with TCC by providing an additional opportunity for area job seekers to receive training that will increase their overall marketability,” said Kimberly A. Moore, CEO of WORKFORCE plus. “Under the partnership, our collective efforts to focus on STEM areas will be enhanced.”
