Sweets for the Season

With the scent of cinnamon hanging in the air and pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere, it’s easy to tell that the holidays are coming. Let the energy and ambiance of the season envelope you at the Tallahassee Senior Center’s annual Wreaths & Sweets and the Insiders’ Show & Art Reception! These fun, free events take place simultaneously on Friday, Nov. 7, from 6-8 p.m.

Wreaths & Sweets features locally made wreaths, aprons and Star Fairy ornaments for purchase. Sweets from local bakeries and restaurants promise to treat your palate. This annual celebration provides a preview of the fabulous wreaths that will be for sale at TSC’s biggest fundraising event of the year — Deck the Halls (happening Friday, Dec. 5). The event will take place on the first floor of the Senior Center and is sponsored by Capital Regional Medical Center.

The big plus to attending Wreaths & Sweets is the opportunity to be an early buyer or early bidder on your favorite wreath! The wreaths are made by community volunteers and include a wide variety of themes from rustic to glitzy and everything in between.

As attendees tempt their taste buds with confectionary treats, the melodic rhythms of the Frets – Leon High School’s Guitar Band – floats through the halls. Follow the notes and let the music sweep you away on a tour of the Senior Center. Guests are welcome to browse the ongoing TSC art exhibits that hang in the center’s dining room, auditorium, hallways and elsewhere. Many works by the senior artists are for sale and make great holiday gifts.

Upstairs in the auditorium, the Insiders’ Show & Art Reception celebrates various works from 60 senior artists whose work has been awarded in advanced-level and academy-level categories. It includes works in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels.

Start your holiday season on a high note at the Senior Center with these dual events on Friday, Nov. 7, and mark your calendars now for Deck the Halls on December 5. Tickets for Deck the Halls are on sale for $45 per person; group discounts are available. Call 891-4003 for ticket information.
