Operation Population Protection

Free Exercise Prepares Workplaces for Armed Assault Scenario

As we’ve seen much too frequently over the past month, the possibility of an armed assault occurring is all too plausible. In a real event, local law enforcement would focus on subduing the assailant, ending the threat and securing the area as quickly as possible. While they responded, the assailant would be active in your place of business. How would you respond?

This is a scenario that every office should consider and prepare for. To help you take the first step, the City of Tallahassee and Leon County have partnered up to offer a free, internet-based workshop on July 16. This is open to private and public organizations of all sizes.

Operation Population Protection is a unique exercise that provides an opportunity for management and staff from your workplace to become better prepared for an active shooter incident while simultaneously assessing current workplace plans for such an event. During the exercise, your team will work through various activities associated with responding to a workplace active shooter incident.

This is not a webinar. It’s a comprehensively designed exercise that follows the Department of Homeland Security’s exercise design and facilitation guidelines. It contains thought-provoking scenarios and injects to keep participants engaged. Previous organizations that have participated in this exercise have reported that it gave them the opportunity to have candid conversations about their readiness and identify solutions.
