Florida Public Safety Institute to hold interest meeting for Corrections Basic Recruit program

Students interested in a career in corrections will have an opportunity this month to network at the Florida Public Safety Institute.

The Institute will offer a Corrections Basic Recruit certificate program interest meeting July 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room 214 of the classroom building on the FPSI campus, located on Highway 90 west of Tallahassee. The meeting is intended for students who wish to become corrections officers with the Florida Department of Corrections or Leon, Gadsden or Wakulla County Jails.

“This will be an opportunity for students to meet recruiters and representatives from local correctional agencies and get accurate information on employment and enrollment requirements,” said Andrea Blalock, corrections coordinator.

Recruiters from the Gadsden Re-Entry Center, located on FPSI’s campus, will be in attendance to discuss the hiring process for the Florida Department of Corrections.

In addition to networking opportunities, this meeting will allow FPSI to gauge student interest in a 13-week Corrections Basic Recruit training program set to start September 8. The class would meet every weekday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and graduate December 16. Blalock will explain the requirements for the class at the meeting.
