First Commerce to Host Free ID Theft Seminar on Wed. April 15 at College Town Location

TALLAHASSEE – Young adults including college students are among the highest risk groups for identity theft, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Learn how protect your personal information at a free seminar by First Commerce Credit Union on Wednesday, April 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. at our College Town location.
“At First Commerce, we are committed to security,” said Carla De Baldo, Senior Vice President/Chief Sales Officer for First Commerce. “While no one is immune to identity theft, education is your best line of defense.”
According to the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book, identity theft is the No. 1 complaint category. Florida is the state with the highest per capita rate of reported identity theft complaints, and the highest percentage of identity theft victims were age 20-29.
First Commerce’s seminar will provide tips and tools to help deter, detect, and defend yourself from identity theft. Topics will include recognizing scams, protecting yourself from fraud, steps to take if you become a victim, resources and referrals, as well as a question-and-answer session. All attendees will receive protective sleeves for debit and credit cards that prevent one common form of identity theft: capturing account information with RFID scanners.
“This seminar is a natural offering in our quest to be our members’ financial partner for life,” said Cecilia Homison, CEO of First Commerce. “Knowing that regularly monitoring your accounts is a critical component of stopping identity theft in its tracks, we also offer free tools to our members including real-time text/email alerts, online and mobile banking, and more.”
