Travel back in time to Leon County in the 1890-1930s through photographs from the eras. Three historic photographers from the North left behind images that dramatically illustrate the established and inflexible social system of Tallahassee and Leon County. A showcase of these photographs will be displayed at Goodwood, showing a dramatic context, with important nuance, about daily life in the years before and after the turn of the 20th century. Many are striking compositions in themselves and deserve attention as exemplars of a new art form for the era. This program utilizes photographs from Goodwood’s own collections (including newly received images from the Tiers family) and the extensive and valuable Florida Memory collection at the Florida State Archives.
