City of Tallahassee Celebrates #1 Public Utility in America

Join the fun on Sunday at Hopkins
Come to Hopkins Power Plant on Sunday, October 7 to celebrate Tallahassee being named the #1 Public Utility in America and Top Energy Innovator! You’ll find out more about Your Own Utilities and learn how customers have made Tallahassee an award-winning Energy Smart community.
The community-wide event, which kicks off national Public Power and Natural Gas Weeks, Oct. 7-13, will offer activities and learning experiences for all ages. Highlights will include self-guided power plant tours, field demonstrations by electric line crews and fire fighters, big trucks, helicopter displays, K-9 units, children’s games, information booths, refreshments and much more.
Named one of the top six gas-fired, electric generating facilities in the world, Hopkins Generating Station, Unit 2, has been recognized for its advanced technology, environmental protections, noteworthy design and operational efficiencies. It is located three miles west of Capital Circle SW at 1125 Geddie Road, between Highways 20 and 90.
Bring the entire family and learn more about where your electricity comes from and why it’s so important to us now and in the future. Plenty of free on-site parking will be available.
“In Tallahassee, the utilities are owned by our customers.  This event is a great way for the entire family to come see what it takes to provide reliable and affordable electricity,” said Commissioner Nancy Miller, lead commissioner on the Environmental and Energy Resources target issue committee. “And if you’ve never see how power is generated, we guarantee this will be a memorable experience.”
The Energy Smart Plus (e+) initiative offers customers a wide range of products and services, including free energy audits, ceiling insulation grants, and energy-efficiency appliance rebates to name a few.
These are just some of the things that make Tallahassee the #1 Public Utility and the Most Livable City in America. Don’t miss this exciting event, geared for the entire family. For more information, call Your Own Utilities at 891-4YOU (4968).
