Our January concert features Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier Suite, music drawn from his dramatic opera about love, passion and duplicity. “Sweet sounds” are also found in Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic and romantic first piano concerto, performed by Alexander Schimpf, winner of the 2011 Cleveland International Piano Competition. These works will flank the stunning and profound fourth movement from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, a love song to his wife Alma.
