United Way Tabletop Flick Football Championship

The search is on for the most enthusiastic college football fans in two key communities – Tallahassee and Miami! We plan to unite them in a fun community-wide event that taps into the FSU vs UM rivalry with an upbeat benefit for the United Way campaigns of the respective towns. United Way of the Big Bend (Tallahassee), home of the Florida State Seminoles, and United Way of Miami-Dade (Miami), home of the Miami Hurricanes, are teaming up to host and produce the largest tabletop/flick paper football tournament ever held! Our goal is to fun-raise — and to fundraise money for the United Way…and to likely set a World Record in the process!

Your partnership is key to this project becoming a success.

The open competition in both local contests allows players of all ages to be a part of the  tournament for a $50 entry fee/donation – all of which goes to the United Way. We hope to raise $10,000 each for both United Way organizations. The winner of the Tallahassee area ‘championship’ will receive valuable tickets, coupons and prizes to a variety of FSU and Tallahassee-area events for their victory.

The two area winners will meet for a Championship Match the weekend of the FSU/UM Game, November 2.  The Champion will receive prizes, including two great tickets to both the 2014 and 2015 UM vs. FSU football games, in addition to other prizes. All proceeds will go to benefit the two local United Way organizations.
We hope you share our excitement and join us as we fuel the passions of team spirit while helping a tremendously worthy cause.

Tournament Project Overview

Tallahassee Tournament: The Tallahassee Tabletop Flick Paper Football Tournament will be held during Florida State’s off week (Saturday, October 12, 2013) in partnership with the United Way of the Big Bend, the Tallahassee Democrat, Tallahassee Parks and Recreation, Leon County Schools, FSU and IMG. The tournament will be held at the Leon High School cafeteria at 10:00 a.m., officiated by local Parks and Recreation officials and volunteers. We are looking for 200 or more entrants that will participate and compete.

Miami Tournament: The University of Miami football team’s off week falls on October 12, and that’s when the Miami Tabletop Flick Paper Football Tournament will captivate the hearts and minds of fans who bleed green and orange. As in Tallahassee, this event suggests active teamwork taking place among United Way, the Miami Herald, Miami Parks and Recreation, Miami-Dade County Schools, UM and IMG. A similar crowd of 200 competitors is the goal in Miami.
