Back to School Fashion Show Shines a Spotlight on Local Foster Children

Please join us as we support some of Tallahassee’s students on their journey to adoption with a back to school fashion show! Fifteen children in need of permanent homes will serve as models. Children have been paired with a local celebrity who has shopped with them for runway outfits and through this process become a new friend. Students and local celebrities will strut the runway in hopes of educating the community about the need of children in foster care. The fashion show will be lined with pictures of children available for adoption through the Heart Gallery of North Florida.
When: September 13, 2012, Showtime 6:30pm, Reception: 7:30

Why: The Back to School Fashion Show brings awareness about local children who need permanent homes. On any given day in Florida, there are more than 850 children in Florida’s foster care systems that are waiting to be adopted. These children are of all of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds. Many of them have emotional and physical needs, and all of them dream of having a family. Attendance will also show your support and encouragement for these students to start their school year off ready with the supplies and clothes they need and confidence to do their best.
Background:
Goodwill Industries-Big Bend, Inc. is the 2011 sponsor of the Forever Family program. Forever Family is a truly unique, non-profit organization that utilizes the power of the media, through television segments and on-air promotions, to create awareness regarding children and teens in foster care. Goodwill wanted to be more than sponsor; they wanted to truly raise awareness for these amazing children. With the help of Children’s Home Society of Florida, Goodwood Museum and Junior League of Tallahassee’s Fostering Hope program, Goodwill was able to organize a Back to School Fashion Show as a way to get the Tallahassee community more involved and aware of the children in our community in need of permanent homes.
