Legal Aid Foundation Issues Second Annual Thunderdome Tallahassee Awards

Tallahassee, Fla. – In honor of Class 2 of Thunderdome Tallahassee, a hands-on legal group training program to provide education, mentoring, and leadership development to a new generation of volunteer lawyers serving Leon County families, the Legal Aid Foundation of Tallahassee will host the second annual Thunderdome Tallahassee Awards ceremony for program leaders and invited supporters. Launched in September 2014, Thunderdome Tallahassee addresses a desperate need for equal access to justice for low-income families and children. The awards ceremony will take place Friday, April 1st from 12:00-1:15 p.m., at the FSU Alumni Center, 1030 W. Tennessee Street.
Host committee members will welcome over 150 lawyers, judges, and community leaders invited. Key Note speakers Leon County Commissioner Nick Maddox and Ron Sachs, President & CEO of Sachs Media Group, will address the attendees emphasizing the need for access to justice for low- and middle-income families, and how investing in legal aid benefits the community as a whole. Winners of the Thunderdome Tallahassee Awards, the “Elizabeth ‘Bib’ Willis Outstanding Thunderdome Mentor Award,” in recognition of a long-time Legal Aid Foundation volunteer known for mentoring volunteer attorneys through family law cases, and the “Tallahassee Young Lawyers’ Section Outstanding Thunderdome Participant Award,” for extraordinary dedication to pro bono legal service, professional growth, and community leadership, will be announced.
Attendance for this program, while closed to the general public, is open to the press and coordination can be made in advance through Legal Aid Foundation Executive Director Darby Kerrigan Scott.
