Leon County Extension Office Hosts Annual Spring Open House
WHO: Leon County UF-IFAS Extension Office
WHAT: Spring Open House
WHERE: The Leon County Extension Office, 615 Paul Russell Road

On Saturday, May 11, Master Gardener volunteers of the UF-IFAS Leon County Extension Office will host the center’s annual spring Open House from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at 615 Paul Russell Road. The event is free and open to the public. Local gardeners can learn how to make their landscapes more Florida-friendly, how to select the right plant for the right place and how to bring birds and butterflies into their gardens. Or, residents can simply drop in for a guided tour of the demonstration garden.

Other lessons – for both green thumbs and beginners alike – will include: how to water more efficiently; what is the best mulch and how to apply it; how to manage pests responsibly; how to recycle yard debris onsite and reduce stormwater runoff; how to determine if fertilizer is needed and what kind of fertilizers should be used.

Also available will be a booklet provided by the Master Gardeners that contains color photos of the featured plants for only $5. Leon County Recycling will also be selling compost bins and rain barrels for $40 each. Cash or checks are acceptable. Checks payable to Leon County Solid Waste Management.

The Leon County Extension Office is a member of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, which is headquartered in Gainesville within the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and funded by a partnership between federal, state and county government agencies.
