Rain Garden Work & Learn

Workshop Offered on Saturday

Rain gardens are an affordable way to improve your landscape and the environment at the same time. The City of Tallahassee invites you to a free Rain Garden Workshop at Providence Community Center on Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m.  During the workshop, you will learn how to manage the pollution from stormwater running off your roof while beautifying your property at the same time! Landscape Architect John Gorham of Gorham Design Inc. will give a step-by-step presentation that will make installing a rain garden simple, even for beginners. Native Nurseries staff will also be on hand to help gardeners select hardy native plant species that will thrive in the alternately dry and soggy conditions that characterize rain gardens.
After the workshop, attendees can tour the working rain garden at Providence Community Center and are invited to help mulch the community center grounds in preparation for the warmer weather.  The City of Tallahassee’s TAPP program will reimburse up to $175 for the cost of plants, compost and mulch to homeowners who reside in within the City limits and who install rain gardens. A reimbursement application is available at www.tappwater.org.
