TALLAHASSEE, FL — March 12, 2020 —
Stearns Weaver Miller is proud to announce that attorney Melanie Leitman has been named to the 2020 class of “25 Women You Need to Know” by the Tallahassee Democrat. Melanie is the latest attorney in the Firm’s Tallahassee office to be chosen for this honor, bestowed annually on 25 community women leaders. Shareholder Gigi Rollini is a member of the 2014 class and Shareholder Kelly O’Keefe is a member of the 2019 class.
“I am humbled and honored to be recognized among this group of dynamic and successful women who lead remarkable efforts to make our community a better place,” said Leitman.
A talented litigator and employment lawyer, Melanie is consistently recognized as a Florida Super Lawyers Rising Star. She serves as an executive officer of the William H. Stafford American Inn of
Court, an organization that fosters professionalism and civility in the legal community. Melanie also serves as a mentor to students at Florida State University College of Law, has served as a
member of The Florida Bar’s Student Education and Admission to the Bar Committee, and currently serves as a member of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Florida Bar’s Law School Liaison Committee.
In addition to her legal efforts, Melanie is deeply committed to the Tallahassee community. She serves on the Board of Directors for America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend, and also regularly
volunteers in the community, including in veterans’ events and food drives such as Fill-A-Truck and the WTXL Turkey Drive. After Hurricane Michael, Melanie collected and delivered a vehicle
full of donations for victims and helped to clear debris in panhandle communities hard-hit by the storm.
Additionally, as an avid runner and triathlete for over a decade, Melanie has competed in over seventy triathlons, from sprint to half ironman, and has been the top female finisher in fifteen of
those races. Melanie also won first place in the female grand prix twice in a three-year span for the Gulf Winds Triathlon Club. Beyond these personal feats, she inspires women in Tallahassee’s
triathlon community to be “weekend warriors,” helping them balance busy lives, children, careers and obligations, while engaging in their passion for the sport, including by assisting others to develop individual training plans to meet their racing goals.
